El Gouna Half Marathon is the Red Sea's premier running event, taking place annually at Egypt's most beautiful coastal town: El Gouna! ​First organised in 2019, El Gouna Half Marathon attracts over a thousand participants per event and regularly welcomes runners from over 50 nationalities. 

The event features four distances: the 5K Race, 10K Race, and 21K Half Marathon, and the 1K Kids Race targeting children ages 5-10. All four distances begin and end at Abu Tig Marina, in the heart of El Gouna, and take runners on a tour of the destination, racing through areas including Downtown El Gouna, the Golf Course, Abydos Marina, Kite Centre Road, and much more. ​​

El Gouna Half Marathon is organised by The TriFactory, Egypt's leading participation sports event organiser, in collaboration with El Gouna Red Sea and Orascom Development. The event is organised under the auspices of the Egyptian Ministry of Youth and Sports and is technically supervised by the Egyptian Athletics Federation, ensuring that all distances are organised to exact international standards, in line with major running races across the world.​

  ** The final cut-off time for all races is at 10:00 am, giving all runners a full three hours to complete their races.

  Kindly note that runners will not be able to collect their Race Packs on the day of the event. Participants who will be arriving to El Gouna late on Friday night and require special arrangements to be made should notify the organising body beforehand by emailing [email protected] or [email protected].

• Getting to the race:

  The sixth edition of El Gouna Half Marathon will take place on Saturday, November 16, 2024.
  ​
  Runners are expected to make their way to El Gouna by Thursday, in order to collect their Race Packs and Race Numbers. El Gouna is located just 25 kilometers from Hurghada, meaning participants who are not Gouna residents can easily reach the destination via car or internal flight, while those traveling from major cities abroad can fly directly to Hurghada International Airport. Alternatively, participants can use a transportation service such as GoBus, Blue Bus, or other bus services that travel to El Gouna.
  ​
  There is parking available near the Start Line Zone, where participants will be able to park before the race begins.
  ​
  Participants should note that there is no baggage claim at El Gouna Half Marathon. Runners are advised to leave their belongings at their homes or hotels, in their parked vehicles, or with friends and family.

• Start Line Zone:

  The Start Line Zone is where all runners must head to on the morning of the RACE DAY.
  ​
  You must have your Race Number securely attached to your t-shirt when you arrive at the
  Start Line Zone.
  ​
  At the Start Line Zone, you will find the following:​​
  - Start Line Zone Stage for final announcements
  - El Safa Hospital Ambulance (for last minute medical needs)
  - El Gouna Hospital Ambulance (for last minute medical needs)
  ​​
  10 minutes before the race start time, runners will be directed to the Start Line to begin their race.

• Spectators:

  The event wouldn’t be the same without friends, family, and spectators cheering on the runners! Spectators can accompany participants to the event in the morning, and are encouraged to support them on the course as they run throughout El Gouna.
  ​
  Please note that spectators are not permitted to cross the Finish Line with runners.

• Race Pack:

  Every 5K, 10K, & 21K runner at El Gouna Half Marathon receives a race t-shirt on at the Race Pack Pick-Up on Friday, November 15th.
  
  Every successful finisher at El Gouna Half Marathon received a special race medal after crossing the Finish Line at Abu Tig Marina. ​

• Race Course:

  El Gouna Half Marathon 2024 will feature an updated race course, taking runners through the wonderful and scenic roads of El Gouna. The course is almost entirely flat, with minimal elevations as a result of a few bridges that participants will cross as they take on the course. The 21K, 10K, and 5K routes all follow similar paths. All four Race Maps can be seen below.​

• Running Conduct:

  Runners must complete the entire prescribed distance for their race within the three-hour Cut-Off Time.
  Runners are permitted to wear earphones while running.
  Runners are requested to run on the right-hand side, as many of the roads and paths will be operated both ways, with runners going and coming on the same path.

• First Aid/Ambulance:

  Ambulances will be stationed at the Start Line Zone & Finish Line Zone and at major points throughout the course, ready to assist runners in need at any time. There will also be medical personnel available at major crossing points to help with any medical problems that may occur. Mobile event organisers on the course will be monitoring the progress of all runners and will be ready to respond with First Aid if needed. Medical care is provided by Alfa Medical Group and El Safa Hospital.

• Nutrition:

  Nutrition will be provided to all runners on the course and at the Finish Line, but it is recommended that all runners plan their nutrition strategy in advance and make sure they have everything that they need ready for race day. Available nutrition will include:
  Nestle Water (in small 330ml plastic bottles)
  Bananas
  Electrolytes from Cell Nutrition
  ​Nutrition Stations will be spread out regularly across the course, approximately every 2.5K.

• Timing and results:

  All runners will be timed using the MyLaps Timing System. Final results will be posted online and organised via overall ranking and age groups.
  ​

• Racemate:

  Racemate is El Gouna Half Marathon's official tech partner and will be activating their app at the race for all 5K, 10K, & 21K runners. Racemate provides audio-guidance, including directions, information about toilet stops and water stations, and interesting touristic information, upgrading every runner's race experience. • Rankings:

  Every participant receives a finisher’s medal upon completion of their race. Rankings will be organised in overall and age group categories and certificates will be available online. Overall winners (top three males and top three females for each distance) will receive gold, silver, and bronze medals as well as special prizes. Please note that El Gouna Half Marathon does not offer cash prizes for winners.

• Finish Line Zone:

  After you complete your race you will cross the Finish Line. There you will be able to:
  Receive your race medal!
  Help yourself to water & Lamar Juice
  Visit the Alfa Medical Group Medical Station for any medical problems
  ​Head to the Spectator Zone to see your friends and family
  Attend the Awards Ceremony at 10:30 am, where the winners will be announced​

• Terms and conditions:

  Payment of tickets can be made online (highly recommended for instant confirmations) or through cash deposits at CIB Bank.
  Tickets are non-refundable.
  Members can cancel their tickets before the General Registration Deadline and receive the amount paid as credit in their electronic wallet, to be only used for future bookings.
  Tickets cannot be transferred/resold to other participants under any circumstances.
  Participants need to present a photo ID at the event that matches the ticket to receive the race pack.
  Ticket holders may change their race choice before the Final Registration Deadline by canceling the ticket and purchasing a new one.
  Following the General Registration Deadline, no changes or cancellations will be possible.
  Ticket fees do not include accommodation or transportation.
