Crevasse rescue course - 2 days
This is an advanced beginner course that introduces the fundamental skills essential for safe, independent travel in glaciated environments. As the course is in UAE we obviously do not travel on snow or ice and look at crevasse rescue and glacier rescue techniques using rock.
It is recommended that you have some basic mountaineering skills and glacier travel experience, as well as a basic understanding of anchors and rope systems. However if you are keen and willing to learn this is not always necessary.
The course lasts 2 days and covers the following.
The curriculum begins with an introduction to personal equipment, fundamental rope handling and team travel and then progresses through topics such as rope ascending and descending, load transfer, belaying, lowering, hauling systems and mechanical advantage and crevasse rescue of injured parties. We will look at a wide variety of different products available and which techniques suit you best.
This course due to its technical nature and rope work at height is limited to 4 people.
Throughout the course you are welcome to discuss other related topics.
If you sign up to a mountain course in the Pyrenees, Scotland or the Alps we can cover further safety topics such as:
Rest step, step kick, pressure breathing
Ice axe technique and self-arrest
Crampon technique
Glacier travel, climbing as a rope team
Introduction to snow and ice anchors
Basic climbing knots and hitches
Rope management
Crevasse rescue
At the end of the course you will be awarded a certificate of attendance
