If you like running and you want to mix it with some traveling (still inside Oman) Yanqul Sports Club, in coordination with SportZone is organizing a 12km running race on the morning of 14th January 2022.
Yanqul is 243km away from Muscat and the trip takes about 3-3.30 hours by car . Yanqul is known for its natural beauty, heritage buildings and tourism landmarks. The word ‘Yanqul’ means connection, and the wilayat virtually connects three governates. The wilayat is located in the eastern part of Al Dhahirah governate, overlooking various well known destinations such as Al Buraimi and North Al Batinah.
Yanqul Club is an official Sports Club affiliated to the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth.
You can camp in Yanqul, as the Club will allow runners and their families to use the club facilities, which are housed in a big area with a wall around to provide privacy. There are toilets / showers and the club is kindly providing a dinner the night before the race.
The run itself is interesting (flat, no mountains involved), with the route taking you through many historical sites, plantations and a wadi.
Water stations are every 4km.
The aim of the race is to boost and encourage people from Yanqul and the villages around it to run and follow a healthy lifestyle, as well as to show the historical and beautiful sites that Yanqul has.
