Liwa Cycling Challenge 2017
“Well done and thank you for organizing - Well done and thank you for organizing. Look forward to coming back. Additional support stations would be a plus. More water and some bananas!”
“Tough. Not for the feint of heart - Really testing event. Overall very well run so kudos to the organizers and helpers to which none of this would run without. ”
“A Great Event, will be back next year! - Well Done, must be a logistical nightmare organizing this event.”
“Very good that this event exists at all! - To be on the different weekend from Dubai Marathon weekend. Probably a lot of tri-athletes and other Ironmen & Ironwomen would participate, if they know it is, as somewhere mentioned, on earlier weekend of 12th Jan. More sponsors! And more surrounding activities! ”
“Tough but stunning! - Never get tired of seeing those amazing dunes! Organisation pretty good this year. Camping facilities basic but was happy to get a hot shower before the drive back. Have read the comments about the siting of water stations but three quarters up a hill does make it very hard to get going again after stopping. Maybe position them on flat sections?Marshalls and police were fantastic, especially the guy at the roundabout at the bottom of the last hill with a cone as a megaphone to encourage riders!”
“Really tough ride - Need more facilities for the riders and their families, the only thing I could find was water which supplied by the organizer and a small burger shop which also couldn't offer anything really especial. Riders really need to recover after race, especially when some have to drive back home for more than 350Km. At the end of the day it was really nice to be in community and had a chance to ride in such a beautiful place. Thank you ”
“Great route and well organised - Need to do something about the loos, not many open this year and no water in them. ”
“Excellent Event and Well organized, but... - Overall everything was really put together and the race route was an excellent challenge. Marshals were friendly and everyone did a great job. Only two things I would raise: 1) No or close to zero toilets at the start/finish. Not sure how that was overlooked with everything else so well covered. 2) The water points on the route - all though such friendly ladies giving up their time this could have been managed a little better.”
“Great race! Will do again! - Well organized race, especially the road closure and marshaling.”
“Well Organized - Nice event, next time please turn the wind off =)”
“Room for improvement - Over all it is a good racing experience except for the toilet in the area aside from limited number resulting long cue there is no running water thus it is very dirty. I hope Jebel Hafeet race will be considered in the future as well”
“Great event - hard work but well worth the effort - It was really different and quite special to be out among the dunes and farms of the Liwa area. Even though the hills were hard, hard, work I loved it and will be back next year - inshallah. ”
“Hard - The road closures were great. Some pictures of the tent accommodation would have helped to prepare better. I loved the event, but it should not be underestimated. Also suggest to limit first timers to 40km in order to get familiarised with the area. From year 2 you may enter 80km or 100km as you whish. ”
“Great event will be back next year! - Great event but would like the organisers to advertise and start registration earlier.”
“Awesome Race for this part of the world - Great event, with good marshaling. Thank you for starting on time this year :-)”
“Worth the drive - Very well organised this year and the marshalling and signage was great. The toilets at the start need to be upgraded as they were in a shocking state and not even working properly. Get some portable toilets in there or someone to get them working.”
“Great ride in an amazing location - I thought overall the race was very well organized. Kudos to the organizers! I would suggest a couple more water stations as it was difficult to get water while passing by due to either a shortage of volunteers or that volunteers were too slow in picking up bottles to hand them out. It was not possible for me to grab water at any of the stations.”
“Great Memories - A fantastic morning riding in the desert, scenery spectacular, weather perfect, good group of riding companions; if anyone tells you the desert is flat don't believe them, plenty of climbs to negotiate and the last climb at @96km felt brutal! A genuine feeling of accomplishment at the finish and some great memories collected. The only negative and it had nothing to do with the cycling but I must say the washroom facilities at Moreeb left a lot to be desired!”
“Good all round event - tougher than anticpated - Well done to the Organisers - smooth and efficiently run event. One minor suggestion - (while I accept riders should be self sufficient) a couple of the water stations could've been sited better i.e. at the base of an ascent rather than half way up.”
“A great challenging event with amazing views - - Please avoid water stations on the hills. Makes it hard to get back in the saddle. Cold water towards the last 20K would have been highly appreciated. - Great organization and well done”
“Na - There should be different organizer than recent one. Awards should be worth that difficult race All categories should be awarded without escaping any. ”
“Unique event in the area. - Really enjoyed this event. As there is nothing comparable in the cycling season, I'd love to see it as a twice a year. Only slight problem was the ladies toilets. Otherwise, excellent all round. ”
“Inspired me to practice and do more biking. - For beginner like me so inspiring to see different nationalities enjoyed biking. It so amazing to see wonderful people with their expensive and well known bikes. The best is how each biker shown the endurance to beat a really challenging course of the road, some with ease and other quite difficult but a winner it seems when reach the finish line. ”
“An amazing well organized event - Only the late registration fees are quit expensive ”
“Tuscany in the UAE - Epic scenery and plenty of vertical challenges from the get go. Tarmac is Italian standard, but overall not too bad. Riding on roads closed for other traffic is just awesome. Great atmosphere and impressive turn out with 500 participants - but not crowded at all. Just super - don't miss this one”
